Parking tickets issued from CCTV video

After covering the town with video cameras, assurances were made that it was for cracking down on violent crime. Head Prosecutor for Nice, Eric de Montgolfier, has now authorised automatically sending fines for parking offenses caught on camera.

Boulevard Gambetta in Nice

The scheme starts on 1st November and with Avenue de Verdun, Boulevard Carlone, and Boulevard Gambetta. Whereas in other countries, parking inspectors are forced to trudge through the rain to catch offenders, in Nice they will be able to put up their feet and drink a nice cup of tea whilst firing off fines. Of course this eliminates any sort of discretion, or “common sense”, but rather continues the drive to maximise revenue through penalising minor offenses. As the number of CCTV cameras expands, we can expect this to roll out city-wide.

In order for it be a crime, you have to a witness . The camera's are not people . Has been ruled in San Diego, & Canada . If we don't make a big stink about it, then the Great Society of Lawyers (Supreme Courts of Each Nation) will overtake us again . It's prohibited under the common law . So you might ask is this criminal, or Civil ?

Smile....

Well, I suggest people do what has been done in the UK: Destroy all the cameras. Burn them: put a used tire around the camera housing, douse the tire with oil and fuel and set afire! No more expensive camera for the Prosecutor for his inflated ego to exploit people fears. Oh and vote that bastard out of office, pronto.

Recall that English town councils were found to mostly use their CCTV networks to fine for dog poo and littering, and you should not be surprised.

The thing is, of course, that this is "feature creep" in action. "Oh, we have it anyway, why not use it for ... too?" Well, if you cared about your citizens' privacy or even simply your own integrity, you'd stick to your earlier promises. At the most you'd restart the debate, though even that is a tad dishonest, because the rollout has already happened. "Let's use it now that we have it." Right?

Wrong. You said it was "for security", so it is "for security", and not "for levying more taxes through fines". Can we trust you to not abuse that position? Clearly, we cannot. Obvious problem is obvious.
